#Missing Couple (2024)

Author: Old Mother Hubbard

“#Missing Couple” (2024) I started to watch “El Topo” (1970) and I realized that I had seen it before but I wasn’t in the mood to watch that film today (maybe tomorrow – maybe someday). I discovered a mockumentary entitled “The Blackwell Ghost” (2017) which was only an hour long so I watched that (more on that later). Someone that has steered me in the right direction when it comes to movies in the past highly recommended “#Missing Couple” (2024) so I watched it. It’s not that great IMO.

A super irritating couple, who are tiktokers/youtubers, decide to buy 104 acres of land in rural Mississippi on a whim – sight unseen, which has an abandoned shack on the property. The couple are over 10 times more irritating than the couple in “Honeymoon” (2014). We are initially led to believe they bought the land to document their experience on their social media platforms but later the truth comes to light. One thing that bothered me from the start is that the abandoned shack was in really good shape i.e., clean, fairly fresh paint job in the interior – it almost looked like a well maintained suburban home, not like an abandoned shack in rural Mississippi.

Anywho, the couple go missing (hence the title “Missing Couple”) and one of their “good friends” who happens to be experienced in finding missing people tries to find them. The film pivots back and forth from found footage of the missing couple to footage of the missing couple seeker who turns out to be even more irritating than the irritating couple. Through the found footage we can see that possibly locals are fucking with them and want them off the property. Later we discover that the property sits on the site of an old army barracks where over 1,000 black soldiers were murdered and buried in the catacombs underneath the property.

It could have been a better film without the bullshit ghost story aspect to it. If it was local hillbilly goons fucking with them I think it would have been a better film. Later there is a possibility of another suspect, and that would have been good too, but they went with the bullshit ghost story. Darn it.

Although the story drags along I was interested in finding out what was going to happen up until I found out what happened. Out of all the possible endings and scenarios they picked the least inspiring option. I’m going 2 stars.

“The Blackwell Ghost” (2017) is a “The Blair Witch Project” (1999) type film about a couple that stay at an allegedly haunted house for a weekend. It’s somewhat spooky in parts but it was a let down overall. Clocking in at just under 1 hour, it drags and seems longer. Later I found out that this was the first in an 8 part series of films. It wasn’t great but I think I might check out part 2 anyway. 2 stars.

If you don’t like this post or any posts by OMH you shouldn’t have read it. No one said you had to. If you don’t like my great reviews I would prefer that you didn’t read them.

That is all.
