High Plains Drifter (1973)

Some of you may have guessed that I have been watching movies I have seen before and writing a little something about them. Read this review and then read my idea for a new list and let me know what you think. Please – no name calling or swearing.

“High Plains Drifter” (1973) is absolutely one of my all-time favorite films. It’s brilliant in every way i.e., the way the story unfolds, the story itself, the production, the musical score, the acting, etc. everything! It’s in my top 5 favorite films ever.

A stranger (Clint Eastwood) rides in to the town of Lago. He’s greeted by some unfriendly rough looking gunfighter types who give him some cheap shit and quickly pay the ultimate price. The town folk decide to hire the stranger to set up an ambush for some nasty hombres who have evil plans for the town of Lago. Low down and dirty criminals Stacy Bridges and the Carlin boys are just about to be released from prison and they are mighty sour and pissed off at the folks in the town of Lago for putting them in a territorial prison for a year. Revenge is on their minds. As the story unfolds we discover that some of the people of the town may be deserving of some revenge. The town is full of cowards and double crossers and we later discover that the stranger may be seeking some revenge of his own.

“High Plains Drifter” is directed by Clint Eastwood who also stars in the title role. Unlike Stanley Kubrick who liked to do 400 takes of each scene, Eastwood liked to do 1, 2 or 3 takes and move on. Obviously both directing styles work but Eastwood saved more cash on production. Every actor in “High Plains Drifter” plays his/her character perfectly, even the extras. It is an utter masterpiece of film making. It’s one of the best movies ever made. 5 stars.

I have an idea for a new movie list. I was thinking about calling it:

“Old Mother Hubbard’s 25 Movies You Need To See Before You Fucking Die!”

What do you guys think? Good idea? I haven’t made it yet so if someone wanted to steal my idea and make their own “25 Movies You Need To See Before You Fucking Die!” they could do that and claim they came up with the idea themselves. Believe me, it wouldn’t be the first time some asshole tried to do that to me because I come up with genius ideas all the time. Just remember though – if you put any shitty movies on your list I will be all over you like white on rice. Tell me what you think of my idea and, please, no name calling or swearing.
