Watched Backrooms (2026) before this garbage, and wow, the difference is insane. Backrooms was a genuinely awesome movie. I thought people were being dramatic about how bad this movie is. Turns out, they weren’t being dramatic. I had to rewatch Snow Blinded (2022) after this to feel the pleasures of watching a well-made movie.

Very bad movie. I’ve played every Silent Hill game and watched the other movies. I loved all of the games. Other movie adaptions weren’t perfect but were bearable. This movie was terrible. I wasted money it to watch it with a friend.

First half was maybe decent-ish. Maria’s wig looked worse than the wigs you see in Silent Hill’s porn flicks. Laura and Eddie I was actually quite liking, as their representations were actually pretty good (until they made Laura seem like a generic horror movie little girl at then end).

The director clearly had literally zero idea what the point or plot was actually supposed to be. Some movies at the very least have aesthetics instead of plot, but this movie was struggling with even the aesthetic. Also “Mary Laura Angela Crane” might’ve genuinely been one of the worst plot twists (if you’d call it that) I’ve seen in a movie. Was Gans high whilst directing this movie? Who one the movie team was patting themselves on the back after adding that part in? I mean, what the actual fuck?

I still decided to give it the benefit of doubt and continue watching, hoping it might get better. Nope. They seem to completely forget about Eddie (who also looked way older than he does in the games), and the plot gets so, so confusing to the point it made ME feel high. Angela’s trauma is subtle in the game and very well done in the game but in the movie they over exaggerate her so much. They gave her the very generic trauma (specifically sexual trauma) representation, which is super unfortunate because in the game she’s handled far better. Some people don’t notice her trauma at first and need a replay, but in the movie they make it blatantly obvious by making her flinch 24/7 and say “don’t touch me” and they even changed the dad-brother monster into having visible faces.

They also made James’s trauma very odd and more confusing than it was in the game. Silent Hill 2 and its remake had a relatively simply storyline which makes it even more shocking to think a 30+ year old movie director could mess it up so badly.
